Each year since opening, I take the team out for a holiday dinner. We try to go someplace fabulous and someplace none of us has ever been. This year, my girlfriends took me out to Zahav for a belated birthday dinner and I loved it so much that I took the team back the NEXT night for our 2013 celebration! There were so many things on the menu I didn’t get to try, and I selfishly just wanted another Desert Rose cocktail since it’s one of my favorite colors.
We ate ourselves silly and had a fantastic time. We talked about how similar today’s floral designers are to chefs; we're both always seeking the most interesting and outstanding ingredients for our creations. Now that we’re back in the studio, I made this design for Chef Solomonov and his team to say thanks. The earthenware pot looks like it might have come from an old souk. The sunset colors always make me think of the desert.
I enjoyed finding inspiration on a plate—a place I’ve never looked before—and I’d like to do more of these posts in the future. What restaurants in Philly should we try next?
