Today's post is a true sneak peek. We're eagerly awaiting the professional photos of S.O. designer Adriene's wedding from pal Jillian McGrath but in the meantime we thought we'd share the process of creating the striking floral collage backdrops that were used in Adriene's ceremony at the Magic Gardens.
Since Adriene has been working with flowers and weddings for a while, she was probably one of the more difficult brides to pin down to a concept or color palette. For months every time I would make a new bridal bouquet, she'd say "I want that to be my bouquet" and each time it would be new colors, flowers and ideas. Finally, when she had a date, a venue and a plan she hit me with this one "Make my wedding look just like this print I love"
In the course of several conversations and a visit or two to the Gardens, we discovered that it would look best if we concealed the door and window in the gallery room where her ceremony was to take place. We didn't want to pipe and drape, that would cover up the lovely mosaic that makes the room special. My solution, create custom canvases that would have areas of fresh flowers as part of the art. Adriene cleared it with Yellena first to make sure she was ok with being the inspiration.
We worked on them over the course of a month or so. There are layers of paint, fabric, ribbon and trim with the fresh flower panels added the night before the wedding. Stay tuned for much more on this very special wedding coming soon!
